Mexicali Bariatric Center

At Mexicali Bariatric Center, located in Hospital Almater in Mexicali Mexico, we see every surgery procedure as a single, unique case forming part of a very important step towards a complete goal: Achieving weight management.

Madero No. 1060, Mexicali, Baja California, 21100, Mexico

I got re-sleeved here and got the duodenal switch surgery on 8/17 by Dr. Esquerra. The surgery was a success. The nurse and staff were so caring and professional. The facility was excellent and I definately recommend anyone who needs weight loss surgery to consider Mexicali Bariatric center. They pick you up at the San Diego airport and drive you to Mexicali. They do all the xrays and blood work prior to surgery. You spend one night at a hotel in Mexicali and then 4 days in the hospital before they drive you back to the airport. Before you leave they do leak tests and an additional xray to make sure everything is good. The surgery cost $11k which is a good deal considering this would cost 30k$+ if i did it in the U.S. There were other americans getting surgery while I was there which is a good sign, and they all gave positive reviews for the doctor and the nurses.

What is Bariatric Surgery?

Bariatric surgery helps people with high levels of obesity to lose weight. Obesity can lead to a number of potentially dangerous health conditions which includes diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Bariatric Surgery is a good option for patients who are struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise or have serious health problems caused by obesity.

Bariatric surgery is the medical term used for a group of procedures used to promote weight loss. There are different types of bariatric surgical procedures that can be performed to help patients achieve weight loss. These procedures will either shrink the stomach to limit the amount of food you can take in or will change the way that the digestive system can absorb nutrients. Bariatric surgery can have many risks and complications, such as infections, hernias, nutritional shortages, and blood clots.

Although bariatric surgery has a high success rate, it is only effective if when combined with regular exercise and a balanced diet. Long-term success depends heavily on the recovery period and the patient's ability to follow the surgeon's guidelines after surgery. Patients will have to make drastic lifestyle changes so that the surgery will be effective. These include avoiding certain foods, eating limited quantities of food and maintaining regular exercise. Patients will also need to take prescription vitamins and minerals so that they will not have any deficiencies after the surgery.

With many different bariatric surgery procedures available, it can sometimes be hard for patients to choose the right treatment. Each type of surgery is suited to different personal circumstances and weight loss goals. Consulting a bariatric surgery specialist is the best way to find out which method is most appropriate.

A gastric balloon is a short term weight loss solution which can be reversed and can be seen as a good option for patients who do not wish to commit to permanent gastric surgery. The balloon is inserted in to the stomach through the mouth, which is then filled with a saline solution and the tube is removed. The balloon then sits in the stomach which leads to a feeling of fullness. A gastric balloon can stay in the stomach for around 6 months and can be a good first step towards helping patients reach their weight loss goals. A gastric balloon is the cheapest of all bariatric procedures and its non surgical and carries the least risk compared to other types of bariatric surgery.

Gastric Bypass Surgery is a surgical procedure in which the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower pouch and then connecting the small intestine to both. Gastric bypass surgery is aimed at morbidly obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of over 40 with additional health complications. This type of procedure helps patients lose weight by changing the way in which the stomach and small intestine digest food. After the surgery, the stomach will be much smaller and patients will require much less food to feel full. A gastric bypass is known as a restrictive operation as it restricts both food intake and the amount of calories and nutrients the body absorbs. It is generally considered irreversible and permanently changes how your body digests food. This type of procedure can be very effective often resulting in dramatic weight loss within the first 6 months. The surgery alone is not enough to bring about sustained weight loss and must be combined with long-term lifestyle changes.

Gastric sleeve surgery, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, is a bariatric surgery procedure which reduces the size of the stomach in order to loose weight. The stomach itself will be reduced in size to take the shape of a tube/sleeve meaning the patient will need less food than usual to feel full and satisfied. The patient will need to adjust their dietary intake and reduce portion sizes so they can adapt to the new size of the stomach. One of the attractions of the sleeve is that the food you eat enters and leaves the stomach in the same way it did prior to surgery, unlike with the Gastric Bypass. This surgery also comes with risks as the staple line where the stomach is cut can leak. This can be a problem as it can take a long time to heal and patients must understand the risk of a leak and its implications. Therefore patients should take very careful consideration when choosing the right surgeon as this can be vital to reducing the risk of a complication.

The information above is purely to help guide the patient and should not be considered as medical advice on the part of Any treatment or healthcare option should be done upon proper consultation and advice by a qualified physician.
